London Assembly Member

Richard has been involved in local Conservative politics since 1980, serving as a local councillor in the London Borough of Hillingdon since 1982. He was leader of the Conservatives on Hillingdon Council (1992-2000) and Leader of the Conservative Council (1992-1996; 1998-2000). Richard is also a member (non-executive) of North West London Strategic Health Authority. He has a particular interest in health equality issues, local government and campaigning to save Harefield Hospital as a centre of excellence. He has a degree in Economics from the University of Wales, and speaks Norwegian, Danish, Swedish and French, together with a working knowledge of British Sign Language. Richard was elected to the London Assembly in May 2000 and again in June 2004.
