This section contains information about MPA's members.
Members
On 27 January 2010 the Mayor of London Boris Johnson nominated Kit Malthouse, Deputy Mayor for Policing, as Chairman and Reshard Auladin OBE, independent Member, as Vice Chairman. Both appointments are subject to confirmation by the London Assembly..
The MPA comprises 12 London Assembly members, appointed to the Authority by the Mayor of London, and 11 Independent members, at least one of whom must be a magistrate (magistrate members of Police Authorities ceased to exist as a separate category from the 1 October 2008), and another appointed directly by the Home secretary.
Members are appointed for a period of four years.
Mayor Boris Johnson, having been democratically elected with a mandate over policing, remains the direct line of accountability between the Metropolitan Police Service and the people of London. The Chair and Vice chair of the MPA are appointed by the Mayor of London, subject to confirmation by the London Assembly, and both serve at the pleasure of the Mayor.
Each member is linked with at least one borough. This means that wherever you live a member is taking a keen interest in policing issues in your area.
