1. An introduction to the issues of stop and search - (2.0MB)

Transcript: “Stop and search is contentious, it is one of the most contentious policing practise affecting mostly London Black and minority communities. Stop and search damages the image of the police, it diminishes the trust and confidence of the communities and the police need trust and confidence if they are going to solve crime.”

2. The good practise examples within the Metropolitan Police District – (1.8MB)

Transcript: “There is good practise, if you think about Lambeth. Lambeth has PCCG and Lambeth youth council, they work with the police around stop and search. The youth council actually assists training and shouldn’t that happen across London; and would that assist to gain the communities trust and confidence.”

3. A round up of the changes that Cecile would like to see – (2.6MB)

Transcript: “I want the Met to change, I want the Met to work with the community, I want to feel safe and secure in the knowledge that when my children and my grandchildren walk down the road they are not in fear of police officers. So I know that for some people it is not hard hitting enough and for some people it will hit too hard. For me, it strikes a balance and I am not saying that it will change everything over night, but it is a start, and that is what we wanted to do.”

"Part of the reason for the success must be the deliberately tough and testing targets which we as a police authority have set for the Met. We know that we've set demands that will stretch the Met, but we believe that they are fully achievable with the more focused and tightly defined use of intelligence-led policing together with more effective resource management.

"And of course, to make this possible we've worked with the Home Secretary and the Mayor, and of course the Commissioner, to ensure that the Met has the resources it needs to deliver an effective, efficient and fair police service for the people of London.

"But above all, these results are a tribute to the efforts and energies of police officers and police staff around London, for without them and their commitment none of this would have happened."
