Aims to make London the safest city in the world

08/00
28 July 2000

The Metropolitan Policy Authority today endorsed the Metropolitan Police’s Mission, Vision and Values statement (see below). Speaking at the Authority’s meeting in London, the Chair, Toby Harris said:

"The Metropolitan Police’s Vision “to make London the safest major city in the world” may sound ambitious but if everyone, man, woman and child, work together with the Metropolitan Police, I am sure we will succeed in driving down crime and prevent the criminal, the petty thieves and the louts from making life so miserable for far too many of us.

“Working with the Met and all the organisations involved in helping to tackle crime, the Authority will be closely involved in the Metropolitan Police’s plans to make beating crime a reality and will continuously review the progress.”

Notes to editors

The Metropolitan Police Authority took over responsibility for the Metropolitan Police Service from the Home Secretary on 3 July. The Metropolitan Police Authority held its first meeting on 26 June, 2000 at which Lord Toby Harris was elected Chair and Peter Herbert and Richard Barnes were elected Deputy Chairs.
