Sections available here: Content Partnership in policing public order09/00 At today’s meeting of the Metropolitan Police Authority, the complex problems of policing public order, particularly in relation to protests and demonstrations involving visiting heads of state, as well as the big celebrations such as the Notting Hill Carnival and New year’s Eve were widely discussed. Members noted that the Metropolitan Police were reviewing the strategy for dealing with such occasions, in the light of recent events. The Met affirmed they were very interested in extending lay involvement in event planning, policy making and training in regard to policing strategy for dealing with public order. Metropolitan Police Authority Chair Toby Harris said:
The Authority agreed that Members would need to make a substantial input and to this end the Authority’s Consultation, Diversity and Outreach Committee would be working with the Met.
