Metropolitan Police Authority – February meeting

A meeting of the Metropolitan Police Authority will be held in Meeting Room 1 (ground floor), 10 Dean Farrar Street, London SW1 on Thursday, 23 February 2006 at10 a.m.

Members will be considering a further paper on ‘suicide terrorism’ (Operation Kratos) following the paper that came to the Full Authority at the October 2005 meeting. At that meeting the chair, Len Duvall, asked for statistics to be reported publicly at a future Authority meeting on the number of intelligence-led and pro-active Operation Kratos incidents, in a format that would not prejudice operations. A paper outlining the MPS response to Chemical Biological Radiological and Nuclear (CBRN) incidents will also be considered.

Len Duvall, chair of the MPA, said:

“The MPA welcomes the opportunity to examine in detail the Met’s strategy for responding to the threat of suicide terrorism and to debate in an open and transparent forum important topics such as the Met’s response to CBRN incidents.

“London is facing a potential threat to the safety of its inhabitants on an unprecedented scale. In such a situation, the MPS has the difficult duty to uphold the safety of Londoners to the best of their ability.

“The MPA, together with the Met, has been holding public discussions on issues around terrorism and community response since the atrocities of 7 July when it became urgent to develop a new strategy for counter terrorism policing.”

Other subjects to be discussed by the Authority at the meeting include:

• Corporate Strategy 2006/09 and Annual Policing Plan 2006/07;
• MPS Race and Diversity Strategy;
• Recovery of policing costs for Heathrow and London City Airports; and
• External Audit Annual letter and action plan.

Commissioner Sir Ian Blair will give an update on operational policing issues in London and present a written performance report.
