MPA confirms appointment of Deputy Assistant Commissioners to the Metropolitan Police Service

12/07
19 February 2007

The Metropolitan Police Authority has today confirmed appointment to the rank of Deputy Assistant Commissioner within the Metropolitan Police Service three officers who were provisionally selected for promotion in September 2006.

The officers are:

  • Chris Allison, City of Westminster Commander;
  • Cressida Dick, Commander, Specialist Crime Directorate; and
  • Janet Williams, Commander, Directorate of Strategy, Modernisation and Performance.

The officers will be appointed to their new posts by the Commissioner, Sir Ian Blair, after consultation with the MPA.

Commenting on these appointments, Len Duvall, chair of the Metropolitan Police Authority, said:

“Unprecedented circumstances surround one of the officers we have confirmed as Deputy Assistant Commissioner. Consequently I have decided to take the unusual step of commenting on matters that would normally remain confidential.

“Having considered these circumstances we are satisfied that our decision to confirm promotion is the right one to take at this time.

“The MPA is keenly aware that the people of London must have confidence in the police who work, in what are often difficult circumstances, to protect them. By confirming this promotion we are making it clear that the officer retains our full confidence.”
