Statement by Len Duvall chair of the MPA - ACPO rank bonus scheme

In response to speculation about performance bonuses for Senior Officers of the Metropolitan Police including the Commissioner Sir Ian Blair, Len Duvall, chair of the MPA, said:

"The bonus scheme for Senior Police Officers was negotiated nationally in 2005 as part of the Police Negotiating Board pay settlement for chief officers. The MPA scheme specifically applies to all ACPO ranks, including the Commissioner and Deputy Commissioner.

"The Authority makes the decision on whether to award annual performance bonuses. This award is not automatic.

"Annual bonuses have not yet been discussed by the Authority - the papers have yet to be finalised and submitted. However, Sir Ian Blair and Paul Stephenson have already let it be known that they do not wish to be considered for an annual bonus.

"The Remuneration Sub Committee of the MPA is due to meet on 8 November to consider, amongst other business, which MPS ACPO officers should receive bonuses. The decisions will be based on assessment of their performance against corporate, business area and personal targets."
