Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnerships

Crime and Disorder is tackled across London by Crime & Disorder Reduction Partnerships (CDRPs) in each of the 32 London boroughs. They are made up of a combination of police, local authorities and other organisations and businesses who have banded together to develop and implement strategies for tackling crime and disorder on a local level.

Independent Custody Visitors

Independent Custody Visitors (ICVs) are ordinary members of the local community appointed to make sure that the welfare of people detained in police stations is maintained. They call at police stations unannounced and write short reports about their visit. Their recommendations can require the police to make improvements for the welfare of detainees. They play a valuable role in maintaining public confidence in this important area of policing. They work as part of a local Panel and help the MPA, which oversees custody visiting in London, to make sure that detainees are treated well.

London Race Hate Crime Forum

The London Race Hate Crime Forum (RHCF) aims to improve the co-ordination between the key agencies responsible for dealing with victims of race hate crime and to improve the effectiveness with which perpetrators of race hate crimes are brought to justice. Its overall purpose is to help reduce and prevent race hate crimes, improve the confidence and satisfaction of victims in reporting crimes, and to promote consistent service across London.

Borough Community and Police Engagement Groups and or CPEGs

One of the ways in which the public can raise concerns about local problems and help improve the quality of local service is through borough based borough Borough Community and Police Engagement Groups (CPEGs). They provide a mechanism of local police accountability and are a means of reporting back to local community groups. As independent voluntary groups, they are managed and chaired by members of the local community.

We wish to encourage creativity and pioneering activities in community engagement and for this purpose have established a Community Engagement Innovations Fund.
